in 1877 John Butcher, who was formerly partnered with George Wiedemann, purchased, along with a partner by the name of Schussler, the old Newport Brewery from Peter Constans. In 1882 Wiedemann would buy the plant, finalizing his consolidation of the breweries in Newport.
